#91 Be here now

Here's a scary fact. The average millennial will check their phones 153 times a day. And yet studies have found a correlation between the time we spend on our screens with the increase chances of us suffering from depression, anxiety and experiencing mental health issues.

So why are we so glued to our phones. Like, ALL THE TIME?!

Turns out, each ping or notification we get on social media, WhatsApp, text messages, emails, etc releases a chemical called dopamine. Which makes us feel good. The same way alcohol, gambling, smoking and sex does.

The difference is that we currently do not have any age restriction on social media and mobile phones usage nor do we have any healthy boundaries in place in the work place to cope and manage the negative impact digital devices are having on our overall wellbeing.

Why am I talking about this today?

Because over the last few years I've spent a lot of time coaching and training Millennials and the problem seems to be getting worse. Not better.

To the point where I spend 1/3 of my time policing people in the room to come back to being present in the room.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Let me know over on Instagram by either tagging me in your Insta story or sending me a DM @markleruste.

Until then, enjoy the show!
