#124 Confessions of a celebrity hypnotist with Aaron Calvert

In this week's episode of #TheUnconventionalists podcast I sit down with former doctor turned mind reader and hypnotist Aaron Calvert, who traded his stethoscope for the stage.

After his grandmother bought him his first magic trick at 8 years old and seeing a comedy hypnotist live on stage for the first time at 15 years old, Aaron was hooked on the ability to create "miracles" in front of an audience.

But Aaron was shocked to see that most psychological entertainment was used to embarrass people, be it making people on stage strip off their clothes or run around like a chicken...

So began his journey to find his own path of creating a unique style to "create the best experience possible for the audience", where no one would need to feel embarrassed.

With sell-out theatre shows, 5-star critically acclaimed reviews and a natural charisma, it wasn’t long before this cheeky northerner started working with #Channel4.

Aaron, co-wrote "Hello Stranger" in 2016 to redefine the TV dating show genre to give it a much needed shake up.

Aaron’s unique style of hypnosis, taken from his experience in stage entertainment and working as a doctor, lead to the success of the mammoth hypnotic task to temporarily erase the memories of a couple.

Since then Aaron has gone on to perform a world first, by hypnotising a group of frequent travellers, 30,000 feet in the air and has performed at sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Including "Declassified" a live show I personally saw and was blown away by.

The Telegraph described Aaron as, "jaw-dropping entertainment from a modern day wizard” and I really can’t wait to hear what you got out of our powerful conversation of Aaron’s unconventional path to turning his passion into his profession.

Enjoy!
